The Veterans Society was founded in January of 2007 when nine student veterans met in the blue room of William and Mary's wren building. A constitution was later drafted and approved by the College of William and Mary on February 23, 2007. Six months later, the Society was approved for IRS designation as a 501(c)19 tax exempt Veterans Organization.

Originally formed as a social and support network for veterans, the Society has since been involved in community service, raising veteran awareness on campus, lobbying efforts, and advocating on behalf of student veterans.

Student veterans are unique. They have their own needs apart from those of traditional students, ranging from daycare to disabilities. Likewise, our student veterans have unique perspectives which enrich the classroom by providing a greater diversity of experiences.

Our mission is threefold. First, we support veterans and members of the military who wish to pursue an education at the College of William and Mary by serving as a single source of information. We assist with housing recommendations, point them in the right direction for admissions, and with whatever needs they may have. It doesn't matter what they need, we are here to help.

Our next objective is to ensure the success of student veterans once they are in attendance at William and Mary. This means providing social, academic, financial, and advocate support. Currently, we offer $1,500 scholarships to active members and maintain partnerships with legal and employment services in Williamsburg.

Third is to ensure the smooth transition for student veterans once they complete their degrees. To do this, we leverage our partnerships and networks to assist our veterans in the pursuit of the career of their choice.

Veterans are not only individuals who have sacrificed and made a difference in the past. Rather, they are incredible assets to our nation and will continue to do great things for America.
